Wright wins 2014 Waverley Library Award

Clare Wright has won the 2014 Waverley Library Award for Literature, known as the ‘Nib’, for her book The Forgotten Rebels of Eureka (Text).

Wright was presented with the award, worth $20,000, at a function in Sydney on 26 November. Wright also won the People’s Choice Award, worth $500, for her book.

The Forgotten Rebels of Eureka was chosen from a shortlist of six, which also included: Let the Land Speak: A History of Australia—How the Land Created Our Nation (Jackie French, HarperCollins); Where Song Began: Australia’s Birds and How They Changed the World (Tim Low, Penguin); The Reef: A Passionate History (Iain McCalman, Penguin); King’s Cross: A Biography (Louis Nowra, NewSouth); and Killing Fairfax: Packer, Murdoch and the Ultimate Revenge (Pamela Williams, HarperCollins). Each of the shortlisted authors received the Alex Buzo Shortlist Prize of $1000.

The Waverley Library Award was established in 2002 to recognise the crucial role of research in fiction and nonfiction. Last year’s award went to Gideon Haigh for his book On Warne (Hamish Hamilton).
