Waverley Library Award 2014 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2014 Waverley Library Award for Literature, known as ‘the Nib’, has been announced.

The shortlisted titles are:

  • Let the Land Speak: A History of Australia—How the Land Created Our Nation (Jackie French, HarperCollins)
  • Where Song Began: Australia’s Birds and How They Changed the World (Tim Low, Penguin)
  • The Reef: A Passionate History (Iain McCalman, Penguin)
  • King’s Cross: A Biography (Louis Nowra, NewSouth)
  • Killing Fairfax: Packer, Murdoch and the Ultimate Revenge (Pamela Williams, HarperCollins)
  • The Forgotton Rebels of Eureka (Clare Wright, Text).

 

The winner of this year’s award will be announced on 26 November. The winner will receive a cash price of $20,000 and each of the shortlisted authors will receive the Alex Buzo Shortlist Prize of $1000.

The Waverley Library Award was established in 2002 to recognise the role of research in fiction and nonfiction. Last year’s award was presented to Gideon Haigh for his book On Warne (Hamish Hamilton).
