Booker Prize 2015 shortlist announced

The shortlist for this year’s Man Booker Prize has been announced. The shortlisted titles are: A Brief History of Seven Killings (Marlon James, Oneworld Publications), Satin Island (Tom McCarthy, Jonathan Cape), The Fishermen (Chigozie Obioma, Scribe), The Year of the Runaways (Sunjeev Sahota, Picador), A Spool of Blue Thread (Anne Tyler, Chatto & Windus) and A Little Life (Hanya Yanagihara, Picador). Chair of judges Michael Wood said shortlisted authors ‘present an extraordinary range of approaches to fiction … They come from very different cultures and are themselves at very different stages of their careers.’ Two authors are from the UK, two are from the US and one apiece are from Jamaica and Nigeria. The shortlist was chosen from a longlist of 13, which included New Zealand author Anna Smaill’s debut novel The Chimes (Sceptre). Each of the shortlisted authors receives £2500 (A$5422) and a specially bound edition of their book. The winner, to be announced on 13 October, will receive a further £50,000 (A$108,442).
