Ondaatje Prize 2015 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2015 RSL Ondaatje Prize, an annual award of £10,000 (A$19,361) for ‘a distinguished work of fiction, nonfiction or poetry evoking the spirit of a place’, has been announced. The shortlisted titles are: Capital (Rana Dasgupta, Text), The Lie (Helen Dunmore, Hutchinson), What Was Promised (Tobias Hill, Bloomsbury Circus), Baghdad: City of Peace, City of Blood (Justin Marozzi, Penguin), Everything is Wonderful (Sigrid Rausing, Grove Press) and The Architect’s Apprentice (Elif Shafak, Penguin). The award, which is presented by the Royal Society of Literature, is open to books by authors who are a citizen of, or have been resident in, the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland, and may be entered only by publishers based in the UK.
