Encore Award 2014 shortlist announced

In the UK, the shortlist for the Encore Award for best second novel has been announced. The shortlisted books are: Getting Colder (Amanda Coe, Virago); Reasons She Goes to the Woods (Deborah Kay Davies, Oneworld); Everland (Rebecca Hunt, Penguin); Her (Harriet Lane, Weidenfeld & Nicolson); The Lives of Others (Neel Mukherjee, Vintage); and The Way Inn (Will Wiles, Fourth Estate). The £10,000 (A$19,380) Encore Award is awarded annually to an ‘outstanding second novel’ published in the UK by a UK or Commonwealth writer in the year preceding the award. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Australian author Evie Wyld won the 2013 award for her novel All The Birds, Singing (Vintage). The winner of this year’s prize will be announced on 11 May.
