Kinney to open bookstore in US

US children’s author Jeff Kinney is opening a bookstore in the town of Plainville, outside of Boston, Massachusetts, reports the Boston Globe. ‘The reason that we wanted to create a bookstore in our town of Plainville is because, quite frankly, I feel angry that so many bookstores have gone away. Bookstores have always been such a big part of my life and my wife’s life, and we wanted to do something about it,’ said Kinney, who created the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ series. The bookstore will be housed in a new building that replaces the landmark Falk’s Market building, which had fallen into disrepair. Kinney wanted to save the old building, but engineers discovered the building had rotten beams and crumbling foundation. The ground floor will feature the bookstore with reading room and a coffee shop, and an office tenant will rent the upper level. Kinney wants his nine- and 12-year-old sons to have summer jobs in the bookstore and ‘become a part of the fabric of that store’. An opening date for the store is yet to be announced.
