S&S, HarperCollins launch direct-to-consumer programs

In the US, Simon & Schuster and HarperCollins have announced new channels for direct-to-consumer sales, reports Publishers Weekly. HarperCollins has launched a pilot program with cloud reader Aerbook, which enables Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest users to read and share excerpts of selected titles and to purchase ebooks. Simon & Schuster has introduced two new stores on 11 Main, an online, invite-only hub of ‘Main Street-style specialty and boutique shops’. The Simon & Schuster store has a curated selection of bestselling fiction and nonfiction titles, as well as children’s books, cookbooks and illustrated books. The second store, Pimsleur Language Programs boutique, offers language learning programs. Both sell some titles at a discount.
