National Book Award finalists announced

In the US, the National Book Award has announced the finalists in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and young people’s literature. In fiction the finalists are: An Unnecessary Woman (Rabih Alameddine, Text), All the Light We Cannot See (Anthony Doerr, HarperCollins), Redeployment (Phil Klay, Canongate), Station Eleven (Emily St John Mandel, Picador) and Lila (Marilynne Robinson, Virago). In nonfiction they are: Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? (Roz Chast, Bloomsbury), No Good Men Among the Living (Anand Gopal, Henry Holt), Tennessee Williams (John Lahr, Bloomsbury), Age of Ambition (Evan Osnos, Bodley Head) and The Meaning of Human Existence (Edward O Wilson, W W Norton). View the other finalists here. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 19 November. The annual awards aim to ‘enhance the cultural value of great writing in America’.
