HarperCollins creates HarperCollins Germany

HarperCollins has announced the creation of HarperCollins Germany by expanding the Harlequin Hamburg office to form the new division, reports Publishers Weekly. The publisher said it will continue to release the same number of titles through the German Harlequin imprints, and will publish around 50 titles per year from HarperCollins Germany, focussing on commercial fiction. HarperCollins CEO Brian Murray said HarperCollins Germany is the ‘template’ for the company’s plans to expand its foreign-language publishing programs by building on Harlequin’s existing offices around the world. New foreign-language offices are planned for Japan, Sweden, Holland and Spain ‘in the coming months’. Harlequin Germany managing director Thomas Beckman will oversee HarperCollins Germany and the company will add more staff to build the German list.
