Speech Pathology Book of the Year Awards 2015 winners announced

The winners of the Speech Pathology Australia 2015 Book of the Year Awards have been announced.

The winners in the five categories are:

Birth to three years

• Snail and Turtle are Friends (Stephen Michael King, Scholastic)

Three to five years

• Teddy Took the Train (Nicki Greenberg, A&U)

Five to eight years

• Big Pet Day (Lisa Shanahan, illus by Gus Gordon, Lothian)

Eight to ten years

• Plenty: A place to Call Home (Ananda Braxton-Smith, Black Dog Books)

Indigenous children

• Silly Birds (Gregg Dreise, Magabala).

The awards were announced on 15 October at a ceremony held at the State Library of Queensland.

The Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards aim to ‘promote quality Australian books that help children get the best, most literate start in life’, as well as raising awareness of ‘the role speech pathologists play in assisting people of all ages to develop their language and literacy skills’. The books are judged on their ‘appeal to children, interactive quality and ability to assist speech pathologists and parents in communication and literacy development’.
