Bragg UNSW Press Prize for Science Writing 2015 shortlist announced
The shortlist for this year’s Bragg UNSW Press Prize for Science Writing has been announced.
The shortlisted pieces are:
- ‘Why Aren’t We Dead Yet’ by Idan Ben-Barak (Why Aren’t We Dead Yet?, Scribe)
- ‘Beating the Odds’ by Trent Dalton (Australian)
- ‘The Past May Not Make You Feel Better’ by Christine Kenneally (The Invisible History of the Human Race, Black Inc.)
- ‘Robots on a Roll’ by James Mitchell Crow (Cosmos)
- Messages from Mungo’ by John Pickrell (Australian Geographic)
- ‘Aliens Versus Predators’ by Michael Slezak (New Scientist).
The winner of this year’s prize will be announced on 27 October. The winner will receive $7000 and two runners up will each receive $1500. All of the shortlisted pieces will be published in the forthcoming anthology The Best Australian Science Writing 2015 (ed by Bianca Nogrady, NewSouth, November).
The Bragg UNSW Press Prize for Science Writing is presented by NewSouth Publishing for short nonfiction pieces of science writing that have been written for a general audience. Last year, the prize was awarded to Jo Chandler for her piece ‘TB and Me: A Medical Souvenir’, first published in the Global Mail.
