Inkerman & Blunt acquires five Nick Earls novellas

Melbourne-based small publisher Inkerman & Blunt has acquired five novellas by Nick Earls, to be published over five months beginning in June 2016.

Publisher Donna Ward told Books+Publishing that Inkerman & Blunt will publish the books in separate, pocket-sized editions, and will offer a ‘fancy binding’ for the multi-volume collection in November. ‘We’re still designing the binder,’ said Ward. ‘It may be a box, it may be a wrap-around casing, it may be something we haven’t thought of yet, but whatever it is, it will be beautiful and unique.’

Ward said she was ‘struck with wonder’ when Earls contacted her to talk about his project after admiring form and design of Angela Meyer’s Captives, which Inkerman & Blunt published in 2014. Ward called the novellas ‘gracefully intelligent’ and said she loves their ‘beauty and brevity’. ‘They offer an immediacy, a subtle density and depth. Like chocolates, they leave you thinking about each one of them long after you’ve finished,’ said Ward.

The novellas, aimed at adult readers, will be interconnected. ‘Each novella stands alone, but don’t be fooled, they are a surprising series of stories drawing the reader into delicate connections that reveal a profound observation about life today,’ said Ward.
