Randolph Stow’s ‘Tourmaline’ to be adapted for film

A film adaptation of Randolph Stow’s 1963 novel Tourmaline has received funding in the latest round of Screen Australia grants.

Stow’s post-apocalyptic novel, which will be re-issued as a ‘Text Classic’ in August, is set in the town of Tourmaline in outback Western Australia, which ‘lies dormant until a random stranger appears out of the desert offering salvation’.

The adaptation will be produced by Sue Taylor (Taylor Media) and Bryan Brown (New Town Films), and will be written and directed by Rachel Ward. It is one of 23 film and TV projects to share in a total of $640,000 in development funding from Screen Australia. For more information about the projects, visit the Screen Australia website here.
