Black to leave Aboriginal Studies Press

Rhonda Black has retired as publisher at Aboriginal Studies Press (ASP) after 12 years in the role.

Black was instrumental in developing many resources at ASP, including the publisher’s information kits on publishing new and emerging Indigenous authors and its Guidelines for Ethical Publishing, a free resource for publishers working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and content.

Black also initiated cultural awareness workshops for freelance editors and oversaw the revision of the AIATSIS Stanner Award to include 50 hours of editorial mentoring from ASP for an unpublished scholarly work by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander author.

AIATSIS principal Russell Taylor said in a statement: ‘Rhonda has made an invaluable contribution to the work of AIATSIS in positioning Aboriginal Studies Press as a leader in Australian Indigenous publishing.’

Black finished her role on 7 July. A replacement is yet to be announced.
