‘Tomorrow, When the War Began’ and ‘Breath’ adaptations among Screen Australia funding

A TV adaptation of John Marsden’s ‘Tomorrow, When the War Began’ series (Pan) is among the latest book-to-screen projects to receive funding from Screen Australia.

The series will be adapted into six one-hour episodes for ABC3, and will be produced in Victoria by Ambience Entertainment, the production company responsible for the film adaptation of the first book in the series. Pre-production will begin in June and casting is underway.

Other book-to-screen adaptation projects receiving funding from Screen Australia include a film adaptation of Tim Winton’s Breath (Penguin), which will be directed by and star Simon Baker; a film adaptation of Melanie Joosten’s Berlin Syndrome (Scribe), which will be directed by Cate Shortland; and a four-part TV series adaptation of Christos Tsiolkas’ Barracuda (A&U), to be produced by the makers of ‘The Slap’ TV series and broadcast on the ABC.

The latest funding round from the Screen Australia Production Investment Program totalled $13.4 million for 12 new feature film and television projects.
