Inaugural NZ young writer’s festival to be held in June

A new festival to support young New Zealand writers well be held in Dunedin in June.

The New Zealand Young Writers Festival will feature 15 free events involving writers and editors from across New Zealand with backgrounds in television, journalism, magazines, theatre, radio and blogs. Events include workshops, performances and panel discussions, and will be produced by the Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust with support from UNESCO and media company Phantom Billstickers.

‘When we first talked about putting this on, I couldn’t believe that such an event didn’t already exist,’ said Dunedin Fringe co-chair Aaron Hawkins in a statement. ‘There are so many great young writers in Aotearoa right now, we reckon if you get enough of them in the same place at the same time, amazing things could happen.’

The New Zealand Young Writers Festival program will be announced on its website in mid-May.
