Vogel 2015 shortlist announced
The titles shortlisted for this year’s Australian/Vogel’s Literary Award have been announced.
The four shortlisted titles are: Animal Etiquette (Stephanie Barham), ‘a punk version of Brideshead Revisited set in 1930s Britain’; Sign (Colin Dray), ‘centred on a boy who loses his voice after a life-saving operation’; Lacepede (Geraldine Love), ‘a moving, melancholic tale that reverberates from an act of violence’; and When There’s Nowhere Left to Run (Murray Middleton), ‘a collection of short stories that prod and worry at contemporary Australian life and values’.
Extracts of the shortlisted titles appeared in the Australian newspaper on 18 April and are available online here.
The winner of the $20,000 award for a first novel by a writer under 35 will be announced in Sydney on 20 April. The winning book will be published by Allen & Unwin and available for sale immediately.
Last year’s Vogel winner was After Darkness by Christine Piper.
