Shaw to leave Readings

Readings’ books division manager Martin Shaw is leaving the Melbourne bookseller in early July.

Shaw, who has worked at Readings for 21 years, told Books+Publishing he was moving to Germany for family reasons.

‘I’ve been so very privileged to have worked for one of the country’s best bookshops for such a long period of time,’ said Shaw. ‘It’s always been a terrific bunch of people to work with, which—coupled with the passion for books and bookselling which Mark Rubbo has made so much a part of the company’s ethos—has made working at Readings an absolute pleasure. Not to mention the countless number of authors I’ve had a chance to meet, and whose books have regularly enchanted me; or the very talented members of our publishing community, with whom it’s been so satisfying to feel a sense of collaboration with.’

Shaw said he hopes to continue working in the book trade ‘from continental shores’. ‘If I manage to do something from Germany which raises the profile of Oz writing and publishing in Europe, then all the better.’
