Pan Macmillan delays Pete Evans Paleo diet baby cookbook

Pan Macmillan has delayed publication of a Paleo diet baby cookbook co-written by Pete Evans amid concerns that some of the recipes pose health risks for babies.

Bubba Yum Yum: The Paleo Way for New Mums, Babies and Toddlers by Evans, baby recipe blogger Charlotte Carr and naturopath Helen Padarin was due to be published on 13 March.

The Australian Women’s Weekly has reported that a ‘consortium of health organisations’ has ‘expressed grave concerns over the book’s DIY baby milk formula’. A spokesperson for the Department of Health said the department has been ‘closely scrutinizing this diet and book’ and is ‘concerned about the inadequate nutritional values of some of the foods, in particular for infants’. The president of the Public Health Association of Australia Heather Yeatman told AWW that in her view, ‘there’s a very real possibility that a baby may die if this book goes ahead’.

Pan Macmillan said in a statement that the book’s publication has been ‘delayed, and not recalled as incorrectly stated by Australian Women’s Weekly on March 11, 2015’, but added no further comments.
