Copyright Agency to offer publisher, author and copyright research fellowships

The Copyright Agency has established nine fellowships ‘to support innovation in writing, publishing and copyright research’, worth $120,000 annually.

The first round of fellowships consist of four Publisher Fellowships, worth $10,000 each, ‘to conduct study or research into digital publishing, emerging business models and technologies’.

Further rounds include an Author Fellowship, worth $40,000, ‘for a mid-to-late career author to cover a 12-month period to develop and create a work’; and four Copyright Research Fellowships, worth $10,000 each.

The Copyright Agency Fellowships have been established in the agency’s 40th year ‘to honour the significant contribution authors, publishers and copyright experts made in establishing the Copyright Agency’, chief executive Murray St Leger said in a statement.

St Leger said the fellowships will be awarded to ‘individuals who exhibit leadership, excellence and innovation in their field’.

Each fellow will be required to produce a 5000-word report to be published by the Copyright Agency in conjunction with the Australian Publishers Association, and to present their findings at a public event.

The successful candidates for the 2015 Publishing Fellowships will be selected by a panel of publishers and announced at the Australian Book Industry Awards on 21 May.
