ALIA announces new VP and board candidates

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has announced that Patricia Genat has been elected unopposed as its new vice-president.

Genat, who is director of ALS Library Services and president of the Australia Booksellers Association, begins her one-year term on 20 May.

As the vice-president assumes the presidency, Genat will take up the position of president in 2016. Genat replaces vice-president John Shipp, who replaces current president Damien Lodge.

Genat said in a statement that she was ‘looking forward to contributing to ALIA’s work to ensure that Australians protect and develop the privilege of open access to the world through their local library’.

Three candidates have also been nominated for director on the ALIA board for 2015-17. The candidates are: Fiona Emberton, a partner at Embervision Partners, whose clients include Australian, New Zealand and international library services; Ghylene Palmer, acting manager of Library Client Services at Murdoch University; and Evelyn Woodberry, chair of the Public Lending Right Committee.

An election will be held to determine the successful candidate, who will take up the position on 20 May.
