Reduction in Australia Council funding will not come wholly from literature budget

The $2 million per year reduction in funding to the Australia Council announced by the Federal Government yesterday will not come wholly from the Council’s literature budget.

An Australia Council spokesperson has confirmed to Books+Publishing that the $2 million per year reduction in the Council’s budget will be ‘applied across the Australia Council’s new grants program and strategic projects to reduce the impact in any one area’.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the government announced a new Book Council of Australia will be supported with $6 million in funding over three years, with the funding commitment to be met ‘through a reduction in funding from the Australia Council’ of $6 million over three years.
