‘The Lifted Brow’ launches experimental nonfiction prize

Melbourne-based publisher and literary magazine The Lifted Brow (TLB) has announced a new nonfiction prize to coincide with its print magazine relaunch in March 2015.

The Lifted Brow Prize for Experimental Nonfiction, worth $1000, seeks to ‘unearth new, audacious, authentic and/or inauthentic voices’ from Australia and around the world. A press release on TLB’s website said that while the publisher applauds the current quality and diversity of nonfiction online, it believes there’s unexplored scope ‘to experiment on the page, using true facts, words from life, journals, journalism, collage, theory, tricks, arguments, etc’.

The winner will receive $1000 and publication in Edition 25 of TLB, the first issue of the redesigned magazine. A shortlist will be announced in early February, followed by the announcement of the overall winner close to the publication date of 1 March.

Entries may be up to 5000 words and entry costs $7. TLB encourages people who identify as queer, trans or ‘of any colour, religion or gender’ to enter.  Entries close on 25 January 2015. For more information about the prize, click here.
