Gentill tops bestsellers at seventh annual Crime & Justice Festival

Sulari Gentill’s A Murder Unmentioned (Pantera Press) and Michael Mori’s In the Company of Cowards (Viking) were the bestselling fiction and nonfiction titles at the seventh annual Crime & Justice Festival run by Readers Feast in Melbourne on 15 and 16 November.

The top five bestsellers were:

  • A Murder Unmentioned (Sulari Gentill, Pantera Press)
  • In the Company of Cowards (Michael Mori, Viking)
  • Gentlemen Formerly Dressed (Sulari Gentill, Pantera Press)
  • The Prince (David Marr, Black Inc.)
  • Once Upon a Time in Melbourne (Liam Houhilan, Victory Press).

Readers Feast owner Mary Dalmau told Books+Publishing she was very proud of the festival, ‘the only one of its kind in the world’, and grateful for the support of local publishers including Pantera Press, Black Inc, and Wild Dingo Press. ‘I urge other publishers to support it and help it grow year-on-year,’ she said.

Among the sessions at the 2014 festival were ‘Bush, Howard and Injustice at Guantanamo’, ‘Power, Politics and the Church’, and ‘Once Upon a Crime’, with guests including David Marr, Mori, Gentill and Angela Savage. Dalmau said a particular highlight was David Marr and Michael Mori’s session ‘A Just World’, with ‘all seats taken and people standing’ on a Saturday afternoon. ‘Festivals and events take an enormous amount of work so it is fantastic when audiences respond so well.’

Dalmau said the festival used Twitter, Instagram and Facebook ‘to get the word out’ and was ‘pleased with the attendances and the interaction’.
