‘The Reef’ wins 2014 CHASS Australia Book Prize

Iain McCalman’s The Reef: A Passionate History (Penguin) has won the 2014 Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) Australia Book Prize.

The winner was announced at the CHASS Australia Prizes Dinner at Parliament House in Melbourne on 8 October. McCalman’s book was chosen from a shortlist of three that also included Joan Beaumont’s The Broken Nation (A&U) and Mike Smith’s The Archaeology of Australia’s Deserts (CUP).

The prize, worth $3500, is part of the CHASS Australia Prizes program, which aims to draw international attention to Australia’s achievements in the humanities, arts and social sciences. For more information, click here.
