Wilderness Society children’s book award winners announced

The winners of the Wilderness Society’s 2014 Environment Award for Children’s Literature were announced at the Little Bookroom in Melbourne on 2 September. 

Bush Baby Rescue: Juliet Nearly a Vet Book 4 (Rebecca Johnson, illus by Kyla May, Puffin) and The Smallest Carbon Footprint in the Land and Other Eco-tales (Anne Morgan, illus Gay McKinnon, Interactive Publications) tied for first place in the Young Readers category. The winner of the Picture Book category was Welcome Home (Christina Booth, Ford Street).

The award is presented annually to fiction and nonfiction books that ‘foster a love of wild places and wildlife in young Australians’ and ‘encourage a sense of responsibility for our natural world’. The award is judged by a panel of environmental educators and two guest judges.
