UK government to spend £18m on children's books

The UK government is to spend £18m providing free books for babies and toddlers over the next three years. The money will be spent on around 12 million volumes for children aged 0-3, to be handed out through GPs' surgeries, nurseries and Sure Start centres. A further £8m will go on reading material for older children and adults, with all the funding channelled through independent charity Booktrust.
