Total registration at this year's BookExpo America (BEA) was 28,494, considerably down from the 36,112 registrants in New York in 2007. There was a dramatic decline in book buyers, with the count falling from 8102 in 2007 to 5539 this year. The decline was also blamed on a lack of librarian attendance and the cost of travel.
