ALA Awards 2011: Printz, Newbery, Caldecott, Stonewall

The American Library Association (ALA) has announced its awards for children’s and young adult literature, including the Printz, Newbery, Caldecott and Stonewall.

Craig Silvey's Jasper Jones has been chosen as an honour book for the Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature, presented by the US Young Adult Library Services Association. Author Christine Hinwood, who grew up in Australia, also received a Printz honour for her book The Returning (Penguin US), which was originally published by A&U as Bloodflower.

The winner of the Printz Award was Where Things Come Back (John Corey Whaley, S&S).

The Newbery Medal for children's literature was awarded to Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos (Farrar Straus Giroux).

The winner of the Caldecott Medal for a children's picture book was A Ball for Daisy by Chris Raschka (Random House Children's Books).

Pink by Lili Wilkinson (A&U) has been announced as a Stonewall honour book in the Children’s & Young Adult category, presented by the ALA's GLBT Round Table.

American author Bil Wright was the winner of the Children’s & Young Adult category with Putting Makeup on the Fat Boy (S&S).
