Jill Bruce wins 2014 Lady Cutler Award

Children’s book author and former teacher-librarian Jill Bruce is the winner of this year’s Lady Cutler Award, presented by the New South Wales branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) for distinguished service to children’s literature.

Bruce has been an ‘enthusiastic advocate for children’s books, literacy and literature’ for over 40 years, the NSW CBCA said in a statement. As well as working as a teacher-librarian at Beacon Hill Public School in Sydney, she has written over 70 books, many of which have won awards and been translated into other languages.

Bruce has also been an Australia Day Ambassador and a judge for the CBCA’s book awards, and has raised funds and donated books for literature-related events across Australia.

The award will be presented at a dinner in Sydney on 18 November with guest speaker Catherine Jinks. For more information, visit the website here.
