ACT Book of the Year 2015 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2015 ACT Book of the Year has been announced.

The shortlisted titles are:

  • The Snow Kimono (Mark Henshaw, Text)
  • Into the Heart of the Himalayas (Jono Lineen, Victory Books)
  • Here Come the Dogs (Omar Musa, Hamish Hamilton)
  • Blood and Guts: Dispatches from the Whale Wars (Sam Vincent, Black Inc.).

The winner will be announced in December along with the winner of the People’s Choice award, which aims to give readers the chance to ‘agree or differ with the judging panel’. Voting for the People’s Choice is open until 10 December.

The ACT Book of the Year award, valued at $10,000, recognises literary works across the categories of fiction, nonfiction and poetry by ACT authors and ‘aims to support the development of ACT writers and promote writing in the ACT’.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Musa was allowed to resubmit his novel for this year’s award after the government reversed an earlier decision that made him ineligible under the new award guidelines, introduced in 2014, which stipulate entrants must reside within the ACT’s boundaries.
