ABA announces 2015 conference program, partnership with Miles Franklin Award

The Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) has announced the program for this year’s conference, to be held at the State Library of Victoria (SLV) on 17-18 May.

Hiroshi Sogo, director of international business development for Books Kinokuniya, will give the opening keynote, with a presentation on ‘Curating Your Services’. Also participating will be authors Richard Flanagan, Hugh Mackay and Malcolm Knox, who will deliver the closing keynote on ‘Supermarket Monsters: The Price of Coles and Woolworths’ Dominance’. Other speakers include Australian of the Year Rosie Batty, Kerry O’Brien and former governor general and ILF patron Quentin Bryce.

The ABA also announced it is partnering with the Miles Franklin Literary Award and Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund to host the Miles Franklin Literary Award Oration and the presentation of the 2015 shortlist, to be held on 18 May. The orator is to be announced shortly.

This year’s conference will also include the announcement of the ABA Bookselling Awards and the Booksellers’ Choice Award, and a joint trade exhibition with Leading Edge Book on Sunday 17 May. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the Leading Edge Conference will be held at the Rydges Hotel Carlton and the SLV on 15-16 May.
