Kostakis, Berry win 2014 Inky Awards

The winners of the 2014 Inky Awards, presented by the Centre for Youth Literature, were announced at the State Library of Victoria on 21 November.

Will Kostakis won the Gold Inky Award, presented to an Australian book, for The First Third (Penguin). He received a cash prize of $2000.

Julie Berry won the Silver Inky Award, presented to an international book, for All the Truth That’s in Me (HarperCollins).

Readers aged between 12 and 20 voted online for the winners from shortlists chosen by a panel of teenage judges. To see the titles shortlisted for this year’s awards, click here.

Kostakis said in a statement that it was ‘an honour to be recognised by the book’s intended audience’. ‘To be part of the Inky’s process has been so rewarding—and to win, well, that’s the icing on an already awesome cake.’

The Inky Awards were founded by the State Library’s Centre for Youth Literature in 2007 to recognise local and international fiction, poetry, anthologies and graphic novels written for young adults. For more information, visit the Inside a Dog website here.
