NYWF 2015 program announced

The program for the National Young Writers’ Festival (NYWF), which will run in Newcastle, NSW, from 1-4 October, has been announced. 

The festival will include more than 100 speakers for more than 80 events, including author Abigail Ulman (Hot Little Hands, Hamish Hamilton), YouTube producer Natalie Tran, comedian Tom Ballard, activist Freya Newman and Guardian Australia journalist Paul Farrell. 

Highlights from the program include an exploration of gender and identity in ‘Trans Stories’; a discussion on press freedom and whistleblowing; and the NYWF ‘Enchantment Under the Sea’ ball. 

The NYWF also features a number of workshops for writers, covering topics including screenwriting, pitching, freelancing, podcasting, zine making and digital poetry. 

This year’s festival is directed by Random House editor Lex Hirst, poetry editor Jessica Alice, writer and editor Alexandra Neill, and Scum magazine co-editor Sian Campbell.
