Adler to chair Victorian creative industries taskforce

The Victorian government has announced a new taskforce to ‘steer the future’ of Victoria’s creative industries, to be chaired by Melbourne University Publishing (MUP) CEO Louise Adler.

The taskforce will lead a public consultation process in the coming months, which will culminate in a plan for industry growth, innovation and collaboration across Victoria’s creative industries. The government estimates the creative industries contributed $22.7bn to Victoria in 2013, and is growing at almost double the rate of the broader economy.

In a statement, Creative Industries minister Martin Foley said the plan produced by the taskforce will identify opportunities for creating jobs and boosting growth. ‘Everything will be on the table—from the arts, to screen, to design.’

Adler said: ‘Imagining the creative state for the twenty-first century is an exciting opportunity for the creative industries and we look forward to contributing to shaping a future where the arts are part of all our lives and are accessible, challenging and inspirational.’

The taskforce also includes filmmaker Tony Ayres; performers Shaun Micallef and Eddie Perfect; artist and academic Callum Morton; Bendigo Art Gallery director Karen Quinlan; ARIA CEO Dan Rosen; ACMI CEO Katrina Sedgwick; and policy specialists Bronte Adams and Mark Madden.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Foley was appointed as Creative Industries minister in December 2014 when Arts Victoria was rebranded as Creative Victoria. The body oversees the state’s creative industries, which spans ‘arts, culture, screen, design and more.’
