Angry Robot announces two-book deal with Foz Meadows

Australian author Foz Meadows has signed a two-book deal with UK publisher Angry Robot.

Angry Robot acquired world English-language rights to Meadows’ An Accident of Stars, the first novel in a planned series, through Jennie Goloboy of Red Sofa Literary. Publication in the UK is set for mid-2016, with a second book to follow.

Meadows described An Accident of Stars as ‘a portal fantasy’. It follows Saffron Coulter, who accidentally travels to a magical world on the brink of civil war. Meadows said the book is something she ‘desperately wanted to read, but couldn’t possibly have written, at sixteen’ and features ‘magic portals, feminism and adventuring ladies’.

‘I look forward to collaborating in its production with our glorious Robot Overlords, who only asked in exchange a very small blood sacrifice and part ownership of my soul,’ said Meadows.

Angry Robot consulting editor Phil Jourdan said signing Meadows ‘has made the Angry Robot family very happy indeed’. He added, ‘I love the edge she’s brought to the portal genre.’

Meadows’ previous books include Solace and Grief and The Key to Starveldt (both Ford St). Now based in Aberdeen, Scotland, she was nominated for a Hugo Award in 2014 in the category of Best Fan Writer for her blog Shattersnipe.
