NZ guest of honour program announced for Taipei

The program for New Zealand’s guest of honour pavilion at the Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) has been announced.

Eighty-five delegates will represent New Zealand at TIBE, which runs from 11-16 February. The exhibition will showcase 19 authors, three graphic novelists, 15 publishers and Māori cultural performers and artists. Among the books exhibited are 13 titles that have been translated and published for the Taiwan market to coincide with TIBE.

Among the program’s events are a discussion of New Zealand trade publishing with representatives from Penguin Random House NZ, Victoria University Press, Upstart Press and Auckland University Press; and a discussion of educational publishing with representatives from MJA Publishing, NZCER Press, Wendy Pye Publishing and ESA Publications.

Visiting authors include children’s author Gavin Bishop; Booker Prize-winning novelist Eleanor Catton; The Whale Rider author Witi Ihimaera; and crime writer Paul Cleave.

The pavilion itself is constructed mostly of paper and designed in Māori style.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, New Zealand was announced as the guest of honour at TIBE in 2013. To view the full program, visit the Publishers Association of New Zealand website here.
