'Torpedo' becomes first Australian literary journal on Kindle

The literary journal Torpedo has becme the first Australia-based journal to be made available to purchase through the Kindle store.

Torpedo editor Chris Flynn told the Weekly Book Newsletter the first five issues of the journal would be available to purchase for $4.99 from the Amazon Kindle store.

‘So if you own a Kindle anywhere in the world, you can now read Torpedo on it,' he said. ‘Also, if you own an Apple iphone, you can download the free Kindle app, browse the store and download Torpedo to your iphone.'

Flynn said the move to Kindle would mean ‘no more massive print costs for us'. ‘The printed version of Torpedo will be put on hold indefinitely, as we simply cannot afford to produce it,' he said. ‘However, Torpedo will continue in the Kindle/iphone format.'

Flynn, who has been testing the Kindle for Amazon, said the Kindle version of Torpedo would run only short stories as the comics the journal features ‘do not display terrible well'.
