The GREW Prize offers a week's residency at the Varuna writers' house, manuscript appraisal and professional mentoring for one fiction and one nonfiction writer.
Griffith REVIEW editor Julianne Schulz said the literary journal had been a ‘crucial first step' for many authors, leading to publishing contracts and mentorships and that in ‘formalising this with the GREW Prize in conjunction with Text Publishing and Varuna, a long-held wish to establish a literary prize is now realised'.
The winners of the inaugural prize have been selected from emerging authors published in Griffith REVIEW in 2009.
Georgina Luck is the winner of the GREW fiction prize and Mark Welker is the winner of nonfiction prize. The winners will be officially announced when the Griffith Review's Edition 26: Stories for Today is released on Monday.
