Myer reappointed Australia Council chair

The Australian government has announced that Rupert Myer has been reappointed chair of the Australia Council.

The retailer and philanthropist was first appointed to the role in June 2012.

Australia Council CEO Tony Grybowski said in a statement that he was ‘delighted’ with the reappointment. ‘Rupert is a passionate advocate for Australian arts and its artists … Under his leadership the Australia Council has implemented the most significant reforms since the organisation was established nearly half a century ago.’

Myer said it was a ‘privilege to serve the Australia Council’. Referring to the recent budget cuts, Myer said that he and Grybowski ‘will continue to work closely with Senator Brandis, the Ministry for the Arts and Creative Partnerships Australia to avoid duplication between funding programs and to ensure that our programs sit alongside all other forms of government support to the sector’.
