Nonfiction festival Word for Word program announced

The program for the second annual Word for Word Festival, to be held at Deakin University’s Waterfront campus in Geelong from 11-13 September, has been announced.

More than 70 guests will speak at events across the three day festival, with headliners including playright Hannie Rayson, journalist Latika Bourke, archaeologist Adam Ford, model Nicky Buckley and television star Mal Leyland. Tim Flannery will give the keynote address on the evening of 10 September with a talk on his latest book, Atmosphere of Hope (Text).

Other program highlights include nonfiction writing workshops for emerging writers on 11 September; a ‘BackStory’ salon, a discussion over finger food and wine with select authors and presenters; and the ‘home to home’ forum, a discussion about young people in nursing homes led by Summer Foundation executive manager Tom Worsnop held in conjunction with a digital story exhibition.

The official festival bookseller is Newtown store Patons Books.

The festival, which is billed as ‘the largest national event to showcase nonfiction writing’, is presented by Deakin University in partnership with the City of Geelong and the Geelong Regional Library Corporation. To book tickets and for more information, click here.
