New ‘Books+Publishing’ reviews out now

Books+Publishing’s latest Reviews newsletter contains 10 reviews of books publishing in November to February.

Included is a four-star review of Emergence, the first book in a new ‘splosions and gore’ trilogy from John Birmingham (Macmillan, January). ‘Birmingham not only writes great battle scenes, he clearly loves pushing fantasy clichés involving monsters and magic powers to that fine point between homage and pastiche,’ writes Tim Coronel.

Also reviewed are Bad Romeo (Leisa Rayven, Macmillan, January), The Floating Garden (Emma Ashmere, Spinifex Press, January), The Last Pulse (Anton Cameron, Vintage, December), To Love a Sunburnt Country (Jackie French, HarperCollins, December), The Secrets of Midwives (Sally Hepworth, Macmillan, February), South of Darkness (John Marsden, Macmillan, November), Volcano Street (David Rain, Atlantic, December), Mateship: A Very Australian History (Nick Dyrenfurth, Scribe, January) and A Short History of Stupid (Helen Razer & Bernard Keane, A&U, December).
