Australian Book Design Awards 2014 winners announced

The Australian Book Designers Association (ABDA) announced the winners for the 2014 Book Design Awards at a gala event in Melbourne on 22 August.

The winning titles in each category are:

Best Designed Literary Fiction Book:

The Luminaries (Eleanor Catton, Granta), desgined by Jenny Grigg

Best Designed Commercial Fiction Book:

The Rosie Project (Graeme Simsion, Text), cover designed by W H Chong, internals designed by Imogen Stubbs

Best Designed Nonfiction Book:

Best Designed Series (including Classics):

The shortlisted books are currently on display at Ariel Books in Paddington, Sydney, and Readings Hawthorn in Melbourne, until 28 July. View the full shortlist here.

On the judging panel for this year’s awards were: Jennifer Byrne (ABC TV’s The Book Club), Mary Callahan (Mary Callahan Design), Josh Durham (Design by Committee), Jon Gray (Gray318), Peter Long (Black Inc.), Tony Palmer (Penguin and RMIT), Shona Martyn (HarperCollins) and Mark Rubbo (Readings).

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the newly formed Australian Book Designers Association (ABDA) has taken over responsibility for the awards from the Australian Publishers Association.
