Territory Read Awards, NT Literary Awards 2014 winners announced

The winners of this year’s Territory Read Awards and Northern Territory Literary Awards have been announced.

The winners in the Territory Read Awards are:

Chief Minister’s Book of the Year ($5000)

  • One Thousand Cuts (Rod Moss, UQP)

 

Nonfiction ($2000)

  • The Long Weekend in Alice Springs (Craig San Roque & Joshua Santospirito, San Kessto Publications)

 

Children’s literature/YA fiction ($2000)

  • My Life as an Alphabet (Barry Jonsberg, A&U).

 

The winners in the Northern Territory Literary Awards are:

Poetry

  • ‘Memento mori’ (Kerrie A Nelson)      

  

Short stories

  • ‘Dark water’ (Natalie Sprite)     

 

Essays

  • ‘The myth of government cover-up in the first Darwin raids’ (Tom Lewis)

 

Travel stories

  • ‘Great Wall bad idea’ (Barbara Eather) 

 

Youth

  • ‘Climate change’ (Kierra-Jay Power)    

  

Theatre

  • ‘Broken’ (Mary Anne Butler).       

 

The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Northern Territory Library on 29 May during this year’s Wordstorm festival.

The Territory Read Awards are open to books published between 31 August 2011 and 31 December 2013 by a writer resident in the Northern Territory.

The NT Literary Awards celebrate ‘unpublished works by NT writers’.
