Perth bookseller’s debut novel picked up in multiple countries
Multiple overseas rights to a debut novel by Perth bookseller Brooke Davis have been acquired ahead of its publication by Hachette Australia in July.
Rights to Lost & Found have been sold to Canada, Italy, Germany and France, and UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada, Australia and New Zealand) have also been acquired by Hutchinson from Sharon Galant and Benython Oldfield at Zeitgeist Media Group in a ‘significant’ pre-London Book Fair pre-empt, reports the Bookseller. The Bookseller adds that offers for the book have also come in from Holland and Slovakia.
Davis, who is originally from Victoria, wrote the novel as part of a PhD on writing about grief. An extract from the book titled ‘Karl the Touch Typist’ won the 2011 Postgraduate Queensland Writing Prize.
Hutchinson senior editor Sarah Rigby said ‘a novel that opens with a little girl sitting in a department store beneath the Ginormous Women’s Underwear rack was always going to be a winner with me’.
