‘Too Many Elephants in This House’ selected for 2014 National Simultaneous Storytime

Too Many Elephants in This House by Ursula Dubosarsky and Andrew Joyner (Viking) has been selected for next year’s National Simultaneous Storytime, to be held at 11am on 21 May 2014.

The annual event, held by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) during Library and Information Week, brings together thousands of primary school-aged children across Australia to read the same book. The event is open to all members of the community, with special events held each year in libraries, schools, childcare centres and bookshops. It is free to register for the event and ALIA has provided access to resources to promote the event on its website here.

This year’s National Simultaneous Storytime was held on 22 May and featured The Wrong Book by Nick Bland (Scholastic). According to ALIA, more than 430,000 children participated in the event at over 2500 locations. It was the second year running that one of Bland’s books had been chosen for the event, after the 2012 event featured The Very Cranky Bear (Scholastic).

National Simultaneous Storytime aims to promote the value of reading and literacy in communities and public libraries, as well as the work of an Australian writer and publisher. For more information about the event, visit the ALIA website here.
