Exisle launches children’s imprint

Independent publisher Exisle Publishing has announced a new imprint that will specialise in children’s books.

EK Books will publish its first book in October and plans to publish six to eight titles in the coming months, focusing on primary school children. The list will be distributed by Scholastic.

Sales and marketing manager Mark Robinson said in a statement that the publisher will be ‘supporting talented local authors’ and is ‘actively looking to build our list and encourage submissions of outstanding stories’.

Publicist Alison Worrad told Books+Publishing that no new staff will be immediately hired to run EK Books, saying that the publisher will ‘utilise their existing resources’ for the time being, but adding that ‘EK Books will stand alone once the list is in full swing’.

The first title to be released will be An Aussie Year: Twelve Months in the Life of Australian Kids by Canberra author Tania McCartney and illustrated by Tina Snerling, which is scheduled for October.

Worrad said that EK Books is in contracting stages with a number of other titles.
