Indie Awards 2013 shortlists announced

The shortlists for the 2013 Australian Independent Bookseller Awards have been announced.

The shortlisted titles in each category are:

Fiction

  • Nine Days (Toni Jordan, Text)
  • Lost Voices (Christopher Koch, Fourth Estate)
  • Questions of Travel (Michelle de Kretser, A&U)
  • The Mountain (Drusilla Modjeska, Vintage)

 

Nonfiction

  • Lake Eyre (Paul Lockyer, ABC Books)
  • QF32 (Richard de Crespigny, Macmillan)
  • Sandakan (Paul Ham, William Heinemann)
  • The Essential Leunig: Cartoons from a Winding Path (Michael Leunig, Penguin)

 

Debut fiction

  • The Light Between Oceans (M L Stedman, Vintage)
  • Eleven Seasons (Paul D Carter, A&U)
  • The Cartographer (Peter Twohig, Fourth Estate)
  • Secrets of the Tides (Hannah Richell)

 

Children’s

  • The Convent (Maureen McCarthy, A&U)
  • The 26-Storey Treehouse (Andy Griffiths & Terry Denton, Pan)
  • Sea Hearts (Margo Lanagan, A&U)
  • Unforgotten (Tohby Riddle, A&U).

 

The 16 shortlisted titles were chosen by ‘panels of expert judges’ made up of independent booksellers and readers. Independent booksellers from around the country will now vote on the shortlist, with the winners in each category, as well as the overall ‘Book of the Year’, to be announced on 25 March. In 2012, Anna Funder’s All That I Am was named Indie Book of the Year.
