The winners of this year’s Kibble and Dobbie Literary Awards have been announced.
The winner of the $30,000 Nita B Kibble Literary Award, which recognises the work of an established Australian female writer, is Five Bells by Gail Jones (Vintage). Five Bells was selected from a shortlist of three titles, which also included Animal People by Charlotte Wood (A&U) and Foal's Bread by Gillian Mears (A&U).
The $5000 Dobbie Encouragement Award, which recognises ‘the accomplished work of a first published Australian female writer’, was presented to Past the Shallows by Favel Parrett (Hachette). Parrett's book was also selected from a shortlist of three titles. The other titles shortlisted for this year's Dobbie Award were End of the Night Girl by Amy T Matthews (Wakefield Press) and Bearings by Leah Swann (Affirm Press).
Last year's Kibble and Dobbie Awards were presented to Reading by Moonlight: How Books Saved a Life by Brenda Walker (Penguin) and Night Street by Kristel Thornell (A&U).
