‘All That I Am’ wins booksellers choice award

All That I Am by Anna Funder (Penguin) has won this year’s Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) Nielsen BookData Booksellers Choice Award.

The award, which recognises Australian new-release titles that booksellers most enjoyed reading, marketing and handselling during the previous year, was announced at the 2012 ABA Conference gala dinner on 17 June. All That I Am was selected from a shortlist of five titles, which also included Caleb’s Crossing by Geraldine Brooks (Fourth Estate), Foal’s Bread by Gillian Mears (A&U), Past the Shallows by Favel Parrett (Hachette) and The Street Sweeper by Elliot Perlman (Vintage).

A number of awards recognising booksellers were also presented during the gala dinner. Meera Govil from Eltham Bookshop in Victoria was presented with the ABA Text Publishing Bookseller of the Year Award, and Megan O’Brien from Shearer’s Bookshop in Sydney won the ABA Random House Young Bookseller of the Year Award, ahead of runner-up Louise Fay from Dymocks Adelaide.

The ABA Elizabeth Riley Scholarship for Children’s Bookselling, presented for the first time this year, was awarded to Amelia Lush from Pages and Pages Booksellers in Sydney.

ABA president Jon Page also announced at the dinner that Derek Dryden, who recently sold Better Read Than Dead bookstore in Sydney, has been made a life member of the ABA.
